Texture Optimizer 1.1
Overview
- A tool to help optimize the loading of multiple textures on your creations and vendors. Noticably reduces lag.
- Save money. Pay to upload a single texture instead of several.
- 100% menu driven wizard.
- Once you’ve purged the script you can edit/copy/transfer/sell the prim(s).
- Can summarize texture settings for manually entering into other prims.
- Includes a visual getting started guide.
- Includes handy grid layout textures to use with your graphics editor
Simple Demo
This quick walkthrough uses a sample texture which is included with your Texture Optimizer.
- Step 1: Drag the “Texture Optimzer v1.1″ object from your inventory to the ground. If needed, rotate the prim around so you can see the front.

- Step 2: Drag the “Sample-Grid-Texture-1″ texture from your inventory onto the face of the prim. This is just an example to show how the tool works.
For this demo we will show the image of the red pin from the texture.

- Step 3: Click the prim and select Apply from the menu.

- Step 4: The grid consists of four rows and four columns, so click the “4 x 4″ button.

- Step 5: It’s in the third column.

- Step 6: And it’s in the second row.
All done. Observe that the image is shown on the prim.

- Step 7: If you’re happy with the result then click the prim and select Purge from the menu. The script will be removed from the prim. You can then do whatever you like with the prim.

Using your own texture
To use this tool with your own textures you’ll need to make yourself a texture grid like the sample texture used in the above demo. To do this you’ll firstly need to download some source textures to your computer if you havent already - use the “File” > “Save Texture As” menu for this. Then place them side by side into a single image using your preferred graphics editor. You may find the supplied “Grid-Layout…” textures useful as a temporary background layer when putting your grid together. Then upload your grid texture to Second Life using the “File” > “Upload Image” menu option which will cost you L$10.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Seems like alot of hassle. Why bother?
- Firstly there’s the cost advantage. For example: instead of paying L$160 to upload 16 textures, you pay just L$10. Secondly, using the same texture across multiple prims loads much faster than using lots of individual textures on each prim.
This also greatly increases the experience in shopping malls for example. Especially if you use this technique for the welcome sign too because by the time the customer walks inside the shop all the vendors (that use the same texture as the welcome sign) have already rezzed! - The prim shows “Anthony Hocken” as the creator. How do I show myself?
- You can create your own prim and enter the texture information manually. This tool can tell you the settings needed. Just click the “Texture Optimizer” prim and select “Options” then “Turn On”. Now use the tool as before. At the end of the wizard you’ll receive a summary of all the steps and settings you need.
- I have a vendor and don’t want the hassle of moving the prim’s inventory over to the new prim!
- No problem. See answer to previous question.
- I already used this tool to use same texture across multiple prims. I now want to update the image shown on just one of the prims. Can i do that?
- If you update the image shown on one prim, then you should update *all* the other prims that use the same texture too. Otherwise you’ll have two textures in use and you’ll lose the benefits of the single texture approach.
